The important hormones that are concerned with growth are thyroxine (T4), GH, and sex steroids. Deficiency of any of these hormones may result in short stature.
When there are multiple pituitary hormone deficiencies, there are likely to be problems in the new-born period with hypoglycaemia or conjugated hyperbilirubinaemia (secondary to adrenocorticotrophic hormone deficiency), and micropenis may draw attention to a concomitant deficiency of luteinising hormone.
